Food Network Host and Author Kardea Brown

Kardea Brown is the host of the Food Network hit show, “Delicious Miss Brown,” which features delicious recipes inspired by her upbringing in South Carolina and Gullah Geechee heritage.

Since the debut of her show in 2019, viewers have tuned in each Sunday afternoon to watch Kardea create classic recipes with a twist.

It’s been an amazing journey for Kardea who is set to release her first cookbook, “The Way Home: A Celebration of Sea Islands Food and Family with Over 100 Recipes” on October 25. Born and raised on Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina by her mother and grandmother in a Gullah community, Kardea was taught early the cultural significance of where she lived and the foods and flavors created in the kitchen from ingredients sourced from the sea and land.

Her career first started in social work and cooking was just something she enjoyed doing among friends and family. When a former boyfriend submitted a video of her cooking that connected with producers at the Food Network, although they loved her energy and personality, they wanted her to have more exposure. “I didn’t hear no. Even though it was basically a no, I didn’t hear no. I heard no not right now,” she says about that conversation. “I took that leap of faith and the next day I wrote a two week notice to my job and said, ‘Hey, I know in my heart nothing has ever felt this good and this right in my life, I am going to trust God, I am going to trust faith and I am going to take this leap of faith and I am going to leave and I am going to pursue this food career.”

More than four years would pass as Kardea emersed herself in the culinary industry, even launching a successful pop-up series called the New Gullah Supper Club. At the right time, she reconnected with producers and by the fall of 2018, Kardea filmed a proof of concept and “Delicious Miss Brown” made its debut.

In addition to hosting her show, she was tapped by OWN to host “The Great Soul Cook-Off” which brought together talented Black chefs from around the country for the coveted title and prize money of $50,000.

This fall, she is sharing years of inspiration and recipes with her first cookbook which is a must-have for those who enjoy southern cooking.
